Which Japan plans are compared
Nomad lists a 3 GB plan for 30 days at €6.14 and a 1 GB plan for 7 days at €3.51. Yesim lists a 5 GB plan for 30 days at €8.80 and a 1 GB plan for 30 days at €3.70. Saily lists a 1 GB plan for 7 days at $3.99, and Ubigi lists a 1 GB plan for 30 days at $4.00. The table keeps the prices in the currencies shown on the provider pages.
The two 1 GB plans from Nomad and Saily last 7 days, while the Yesim and Ubigi 1 GB plans last 30 days. That difference matters when the same data allowance is being compared. The days sit beside each price, so the data allowance is read with its validity period.
How to choose between plans
Among the plans priced in EUR, Yesim's 5 GB plan for 30 days has the lowest price per GB at €1.76. Among the plans priced in USD, Saily's 1 GB plan for 7 days has the lowest price per GB at $3.99. Price per GB only roughly compares plans of different lengths because a 30-day plan and a 7-day plan differ in days as well as in data.
The network details also differ. Nomad lists KDDI au / SoftBank, Saily's network is not stated, Ubigi lists KDDI / NTT Docomo, and Yesim lists SwitchLess Networks with the strongest available network including 5G. Euro and dollar prices are shown as each provider's page showed them on the read date, and they are not converted.
What to check before you buy
An eSIM is installed on the phone by scanning a QR code or entering a code from the provider. The phone must support eSIM and be unlocked from its carrier. Many travel eSIM plans carry data only, so check whether a plan includes a phone number if calls or text messages are needed.
